From School Library Journal
This collection includes poetry from post-World War II through the Cold War and its aftermath. The poets are well known and there is a wide representation of voices. Individual poets and movements are featured: Pablo Neruda, John Cage, the Tammuzi poets, postwar Japanese poetry, "Language" poets, "Concrete" poets, "Beat" poets, Maggie O'Sullivan, James Joyce, and many others. Unlike many anthologies that highlight only a few poets with a certain perspective, this is an objective anthology of the best of this period. A must-purchase for any collection.

Perfect for the general reader of poetry, students and teachers of literature, and aspiring poets, All the Fun’s in How You Say a Thing is a lively and comprehensive study of versification by one of our best contemporary practitioners of traditional poetic forms. Emphasizing both the coherence and the diversity of English metrical practice from Chaucer’s time to ours, Timothy Steele explains how poets harmonize the fixed units of meter with the variable flow of idiomatic speech. He examines the ways in which poets have used meter, rhyme, and stanza to communicate and enhance meaning. Steele illuminates as well many practical, theoretical, and historical issues in English prosody, without ever losing sight of the fundamental pleasures, beauties, and insights that fine poems offer us. Written lucidly, with a generous selection of helpful scansions and explanations of the metrical effects of the great poets of the English language, All the Fun’s in How You Say a Thing is not only a valuable handbook on technique; it is also a wide-ranging study of English verse and a mine of entertaining information for anyone wishing more fully to write, enjoy, understand, or teach poetry.

Off the Wall at Callahan's
[Paperback]by Spider Robinson
# Paperback: 160 pages# Publisher: Tor Books (August 1, 2004)# Language: English# ISBN-10: 0765310465# ISBN-13: 978-0765310460# Product Dimensions: 8.1 x 5.4 x 0.5 inches# Shipping Weight: 6.4 ounces
Off the Wall at Callahan's is a collection of epigrams, maxims, proverbs, observations, eye-watering puns, and original song lyrics distilled from the first five volumes of the Callahan's Place series (from Callahan's Crosstime Saloon to Lady Slings the Booze). After the original Callahan's Place was destroyed, all of these gems were painstakingly deciphered from blown-up old photos of the wall behind the bar, where Callahan let his customers scrawl graffiti in place of the usual mirror. So technically, every word is "off the wall." Further ennobled by numerous interior B&W illustrations by Phil Foglio, there are even capsule bios at the end for every person (real or imaginary) quoted in the graffiti section. Welcome to Callahan's Crosstime Saloon . . .There's no place like it in this, or any other, universe.
